APACMed Holds Inaugural Conference in Singapore
In April this year, some of the largest medical technology companies in the industry joined forces to form the Asia Pacific Medical Technology Associa- tion (APACMed). Trade groups historically have played a role internationally
for numerous years, with groups such as Eucomed in Europe and MEDEC in
Canada serving as long-time players in global medtech advocacy. This, however,
is a first for Asia.
Based in Singapore, APACMed, according to its newly named leadership, was
created to“improve access to high-quality healthcare for patients by collaborating with governments, policy makers and other stakeholders to create innovative solutions and jointly shape the future of healthcare in the region.” Member
companies thus far include industry heavyweights such as Abbott Laboratories
Inc., B. Braun, Becton Dickinson and Company, Boston Scientific Corp., Cardinal
Health Inc., GE Healthcare, Johnson & Johnson, Medtronic plc, Stryker Corp.
and Zimmer Holdings Inc. APACMed was formed to address the unmet needs
of two-thirds of the world’s population that resides in this region, officials with
the organization said.
In December, the association will host its first Asia Pacific Med Tech Forum.
The inaugural event’s theme is“Pioneering a Healthy Future Together”—raising
standards of care for patients in Asia Pacific through better access, innovation
and collaboration. The main two-day event will bring together stakeholders,
policymakers, healthcare professionals, and senior executives from the medical
device industry to share best practices and gain insights that will inspire collaborations and action across the region.
Participants will have the opportunity to network and engage with speakers
through a series of panel sessions, CEO roundtables and more.
On Dec. 9, there will be a pre-conference event for small- and medium-sized
enterprises (SMEs). The main program features topics such as the outlook of
the medical technology industry in Asia Pacific and globally; and challenges in
medical device design and development. There also will be a panel discussion on
navigating regulatory pathways and the latest requirements in the United States,
European Union, China, and ASEAN nations.
Asia Pacific Med Tech Forum 2015 will be held at Singapore’s Raffles City
Convention Centre from Dec. 10-11. For more information or to register for the
event, call +65 6411 6688 or visit www.apacmedevents.org.
